Dr. Alex M. Mercado has a solo Internal Medicine practice, with admitting privileges at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center and Morristown Memorial Hospital.

He is board certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Mercado received his undergraduate degree from New York University, New York, NY with a B.S. in Biology, cum laude, June 1989.  He received his MD in June of 1993 from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ-New Jersey Medical School, Newark, NJ.

Dr. Mercado performed his residency at the New York University Medical Center, Internal Medicine Program, New York, NY from July 1993 through June 1996.

During his studies, Dr. Mercado conducted the following research:

Since April of 2005 he has been the Chairman for the Department of Medicine at the Hackettstown Regional Medical Center. He was also a Member at Large on the Executive Committee at the Hackettstown Community Hospital from April 2003 through March 2005.

Throughout his career, Dr. Mercado has received numerous honors and awards.  These include Eagle Scout (1985), Phi Beta Kappa (1988), New York University Founder's Day Award (1989), and N.J.M.S. Academic Excellence Scholarship (1989-1993).

He is a member of the following professional societies:

	American Medical Association, 1989-present
	American Academy of Family Physicians, 1990-1993
	American College of Physicians, 1995-present.
